For most of us, warts are such an eyesore, and that's probably why we are so desperate to remove them. Warts are a fairly common skin issue and most people will have one at some point in their lives. These warts are caused by the human papillomavirus or HPV. They can be found on your fingers, hands, face, toes, elbows, knees, and sometimes, around your genitals. They have a rough surface and can be either light or dark in color.
Though these small lumps aren't dangerous, they can be unsightly. In fact, if left untreated, warts can take up several years to disappear. Fortunately, there are various home remedies to treat warts. But if you have genital warts, don't try these remedies because the skin in that area is extremely sensitive.
Here are some effective home remedies for warts:
1. Apple cider vinegar
We all know that apple cider vinegar (ACV) is one of the most sought-after ingredients, when it comes to skincare. ACV is believed to work for warts because it is an acetic acid that kills certain types of bacteria and viruses. In fact, ACV burns and slowly destroys the infected skin, causing warts to fall off, similar to how salicylic acid works.
To use, take a small piece of cotton, dip it in ACV and apply it as a compress. Secure it with a bandage and leave it on overnight and remove it the next morning. Repeat daily until the warts are gone.
2. Aloe vera
The results of using aloe vera for skin are too good to be true. Packed with malic acid, aloe vera is extremely useful in treating warts. In fact, if your warts are itchy or painful, the antibacterial and antibiotic properties of aloe vera may provide relief.
To use aloe, remove a leaf from the plant. Apply the gel on the wart and repeat daily.
3. Tea tree oil
Skin warts are fairly common. Most people will have one at some point in their lives. Essential oils like tea tree oil work well for wart removal. The tea tree oil's antiviral and antimicrobial properties may help you get rid of warts. In fact, this oil activates the immune system's white blood cells. This means when applied to warts, tea tree oil may activate white blood cells to fight it.
4. Garlic
One potential treatment option for warts is to use garlic. Mince fresh garlic and squeeze out the extra juice. Mix a pinch of baking soda to make a paste and cover with a clean bandage. Replace daily for a week. Garlic is a powerhouse of antiseptic, antibiotic, antiallergic and anti-inflammatory properties, which will destroy enzymes in harmful pathogens and will treat your warts.
5. Banana peel
After eating a banana you'll throw away its skin. But do you know banana skin is also very beneficial? However, there's no scientific evidence to use it to treat warts. But it is rumored that the potassium in the banana peel can fight HPV. That's because it has antimicrobial and antiviral properties, which together help to treat the virus.
If you want to try it, rub the inside of a banana peel on the wart. Repeat daily to remove warts fast.
6. Onion juice
Onion juice has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that can inhibit the growth of viruses or bacteria. This greatly helps in removing warts.
Take a small onion, peel the outer skin and pound it in a mortar and pestle. Use it to reduce warts.
7. Potato
Traditional cures seem to centre around food. One of the most popular solutions for treating warts are potatoes. Cut a small potato in half and rub it on the wart, until it's covered in potato juice. Carry out this process on a daily basis till the warts are gone.
8. Baking soda and castor oil
This is yet another important home remedy to treat warts. The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of baking powder reduce pain and inflammation at the site of the wart. The addition of castor oil reduces the burning sensation afterward, therefore it is extremely effective in treating warts.
To use this, mix one tablespoon baking soda with one to two drops of castor oil. Use this paste on the affected area daily, till the warts fall off.
So ladies, follow these home remedies which help to treat warts effectively and lead a healthy life.
